SAP MM: How to Define Basic Materials in SAP ?

Define Basic Materials

 The basic material is a selection that can be made in the basic data screen, it allows a basic material to be chooses that the material being entered can be grouped under. The basic material specified in the material master does not have a control function. But is often used in custom reports where end user want t o see activity of material at a basic material level
The basic material is Fund in Table TWSPR

It is useful to specify the basic materials allowed if you want to refer to them in programs of your own and you need to be certain that, for example, there are no differences in their spelling

STEP 1: Following is the path to Define Basic Materials
  • IMG activity path :IMG > LOGISTICS – GENERAL  => MATERIAL MASTER  => SETTINGS FOR KEY FIELS=>  DEFINE BASIC MATERIALS
  • Transaction code : SPRO


STEP 2:  Click on execute button to create the new Basic Materials (Following type Window will open), Click on “New Entries” button to create the new Basic Materials


STEP 3:  Following type Window will open, Give appropriate name 


 STEP 4:  Click on Save Button to store Configured data.

Note
If the basic material is not listed here, the system responds in one of the following ways (which you can define in Customizing for the Material Master in the activity Define attributes of system messages):
  •   It issues a warning message or an error message telling you that the basic material does not exist.
  •    In the case of an error message, you must specify one of the basic materials listed here.
  •   It does not issue any message.
  •  In this case, you do not need to specify one of the basic materials listed here.
